We all have mental health. But not all of us live with good mental health.

When we experience good mental health, we can make full use of our abilities, cope with the normal stresses of life and play a full part in our families, workplaces and communities,as well as among friends. Despite our mental health being such an important personal and social resource, the extent of mental health problems in the population shows that too many of us are struggling, rather than thriving and reaching our full potential. This is why we must start talking about prevention and mental health.

If you need to talk, you can reach us now via instagram: @welfare.mimsa - Send us message and we will answer you as soon as possible. If you need anonymity, you can make a new instagram account. If not, remember that in any case whatever you tell us is strictly confidential.

about us

About Us
  • We all know how challenging medical student life can get. This is why in 2019, we introduced a new board position - welfare officer. We are happy to announce that for the year 2022 we were able to grow the welfare department by one more team member to provide even better support and activities for the students during the future years.

  • Our aim is to provide students a safe place to message us in case anyone is having a hard time. We listen, understand and try to find a solution. We are not mental health professionals, but we can also help you find someone.

  • With the charity team, we also organize fun events that the students can enjoy instead of just studying. Furthermore, we have an instagram account where we post about a variety of topics (mental health, fun activities, places…) with a focus on Brno and Masaryk university.

  • In this page you will find contacts for health-care services (including emergencies, GPs and mental health help), information about insurance and other links of interest.

Emergency Contacts

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

A) PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY:

  • The only emergency outpatient clinic in Brno is the Crisis Centre in Brno (Krizove Centrum) from is open 24/7 in building G. It is possible to have short-term intensive psychotherapy which involves hospitalization for 5-7 days.

Psychiatrická klinika LF MU a FN Brno

Pavilon G

Jihlavská 20

625 00 Brno

https://www.fnbrno.cz/psychiatricka-klinika/k1484

  • Please bring your proof of insurance with you.

  • For students with less urgent problems, there is an outpatient department that has some limited capacity, with possibilities of one-time prescription of medication if a person has previous medical documentation supporting the medication use.

  • Before speaking to a psychiatrist, you will need to talk to a nurse first. The majority of nurses speak little or no English, so here are some helpful phrases to assist your communication:

Hello, I am a student of the medical faculty:

Dobry den, jsem student/ studentka na lekarske fakulte.

This is my first time as a patient in Bohunice Hospital

Poprve v nemocnici jako pacient/ka

This is my insurance card.

To je muj karta pojištěnce.

I need to speak to a doctor who can speak English.

Musim (potrebuji) mluvit s doktorem, ktery mluvi anglicky

  •  Another option in case of emergency is calling the hope line of your home country, you can find them here.

b) HEALTH EMERGENCIES

If you have an urgent need for medical attention at a time when doctors’ offices are not open, you can go to:

Choose your payment option, pay and it will give you a ticket with a number. Go to the waiting room and wait for your number to be called. Note that numbers could not follow an order & the waiting time depends on how busy they are (It could go from minutes to hours)

INSURANCE

  • If you are an EU citizen, you should register your european health insurance card (EHIC) card with a Czech insurance company VZP. This will give you a Czech insurance number that you can use anytime you need to see a medical facility in the Czech Republic.

  • The Czech insurance number gives you same coverage of medical care as Czech citizens have, and also the same extent of possible free Covid-19 testing. It’s worth noting that most therapists work privately and will therefore still require payment for services.

You can register your card by going to:

  • Pojišťovna VZP

Benešova 696, 602 00 Brno-střed

First floor (In front of the bus station)

There is also another office in front of FN Bohunice, right next to the Mitte Cafe:

Netroufalky 00/836, 625 00 Brno-Starý Lískovec

* Don’t forget to also bring your ISIC

* If they ask for a proof of studies, you can download it in the IS: Student > During studies > E-transcripts > confirmation of studies

You can also send them an Email but the maximum validity for the insurance number will be 3 months (whereas if you go in person it’s 1 year): info@vzp.cz
